About Us

For almost seventy years, The North Carolina Studies in Romance Languages and Literatures (NCSRLL) has supported and disseminated scholarship in the Romance Literatures, based on the principle that the worth of a book lies in how well it advances the scholarly dialogue, rather than its commercial value. The over 300 works in the series are primarily on topics in French, Spanish, Luso-Brazilian and Italian literatures. About Our BooksThey have treated literary movements, individual authors and works, themes, figures of speech and thought, archetypes, poetics, and on occasion, editions of unpublished literary works. The series does not publish conference proceedings, unrevised dissertations, Festschriften, fiction, poetry, translations, or anthologies of any type.

North Carolina Studies in Romance Languages and Literatures publishes approximately four volumes each year. All manuscripts are anonymously peer reviewed by experts in the specific field in accordance with the strictest scholarly guidelines. As a result, NCSRLL is one of the most distinguished series in the country for publications on French, Spanish, Luso-Brazilian and Italian literatures.

North Carolina Studies in Romance Languages and Literatures was founded by Urban Tigner Holmes in 1940. The first Editorial Board was composed of William M. Dey, Urban T. Holmes, and Sturgis Leavitt, all faculty at UNC. Members of the current Editorial Board include distinguished scholars from around the country, who contribute their expertise to the success of the series. Books are published by the UNC Department of Romance Languages and the University of North Carolina Press, which also distributes them. They can be purchased through the University of North Carolina Press Catalogue.
